       Steven A. Matta, Esq. is the founding Member and Manager of Matta Blair, PLC.  He established the firm in April, 2009 and continues to concentrate his practice in the areas of real estate transactions and commercial litigation, including matters involving: title insurance defense, banking law, lender liability, errors & omissions defense, municipal liability defense, condemnation, zoning, professional liability defense, directors & officers liability defense, entity formation, business and asset sales, contract disputes, construction litigation, and general business and real estate law.

Mr. Matta has represented numerous municipalities and townships, banks, title insurers and agencies, private buyers and sellers of real property and businesses, as well as many developers, builders, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, appraisers, real estate brokers and agents, in both transactions and litigation. He was listed in Michigan Lawyers Weekly as having received one of the highest verdicts in Michigan for 1998, a suit between a builder and developer in which a jury award, including interest, exceeded $2.4 Million for Mr. Matta’s client.  In 2004, he was again listed in Michigan Lawyers Weekly for having obtained one of the highest verdicts in the state that year, having prevailed in a complex contractual dispute for a municipal client owed multiple millions of dollars in gas royalties from a gas-to-electricity facility run on a local landfill. In addition to trying over 130 cases to conclusion, he has participated in and closed hundreds of millions of dollars in real estate and business transactions.

Prior to founding Matta Blair, PLC, Mr. Matta was a senior shareholder with Garan Lucow Miller, PC, where he practiced from 1985 to 2009.  He has practiced in all state and appellate courts in Michigan, as well as the U.S District Court E.D.M, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the US Bankruptcy Court.  He is AV rated (highest rating) in Martindale-Hubbell. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1983 and from the University Of Detroit School Of Law in 1986. He was a participant in the London Law Program of Pepperdine University School of Law in the fall, 1985.  In 1984-1985, he was the Associate Editor of the Michigan Tax Law Journal. He received a scholarship award from the Taxation Section of the State Bar of Michigan for an outstanding article in 1985. He has published, “The Effects of Rowan on Tax Sheltered Annuities”, Michigan Tax Law Journal, Vol. 11, Issue II and a digest “Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp. v Michigan Dept. of Treasury”, Michigan Tax Law Journal, Vol. 11, Issue III.  He was a participant in the Phillips C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in 1984-1985. He was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1987 and he is a member of the Real Property Law Section and Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
